About The Event
Learn clay hand-building techniques in a relaxed studio environment. Over 6 weeks you will learn about clay types and applications, methods of forming including pinching, coiling, slab-building and kurinuki (carving) - to create a series of objects that are fired and functional. Suitable for beginners or those looking to develop their skills. Starts Thursday and runs weekly from 10.30am-12.30pm.
Week 1 : Pinch
Week 2 : Coil
Week 3 : Kurinuki
Week 4 : Slab
Week 5 : Freestyle
Week 6 : Glaze + Fire
Note: work from weeks 1-5 will be bisque fired in preparation for glazing in week 6

About the tutor:
Sachiko Mardon discovered the medium of ceramics (via mould-making and slip-casting) while studying for a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Hons. RMIT), and later completed a Master of Fine Arts (Ceramics: UTAS). She recently established Piecework Projects studio at Jack’s Magazine, offering makers space to develop their ceramics practice at all levels. Sachiko also teaches hand-building at the Incinerator Gallery and Connie Lichti Ceramics.
